Justice of The Peace

A Justice of the Peace (JP) is a local judge who handles minor civil and criminal cases, such as small claims, traffic violations, and landlord-tenant disputes. They may also perform weddings, issue warrants, and handle matters related to deaths, such as inquests. JPs ensure that the law is followed in their courtroom and that cases are resolved fairly. They serve four-year terms and do not need to be licensed attorneys to hold the position.
