The President of the United States serves a four-year term and holds three primary roles: Head of State, Chief Executive Officer, and Commander in Chief of all military forces. The powers of the President are defined by the Constitution and federal law. The President has the authority to appoint members of the Cabinet, ambassadors to other nations and the United Nations, Supreme Court Justices, and federal judges, all subject to Senate approval. Together with the Cabinet and its agencies, the President is responsible for carrying out and enforcing the laws of the United States. The President may also recommend legislation to the United States Congress. The current annual salary for the President is $400,000 per year.
