How do you envision your role while HISD operations and administration are under the supervision of the Texas Education Association rather than an elected Board of Trustees?
While my role will be temporarily limited to an advisory position until the Texas Education Agency restores oversight to the elected board of trustees, I intend to be fully engaged in the governance of HISD.

Why are you running for this office?
I have 30 years experience teaching 100’s of children. I believe in academic excellence for all kids. I have five granddaughters ranging in ages from 7-10. I want to share my experience and background in education. Houston is going through educational turmoil and I believe I can help create an educational system we all can be proud of. I have extensive experience in teaching low income and At-Risk students, Education Law and Special Education Law. It is time to have School Board Trustees who have been educators making education decisions.

How do you envision your role while HISD operations and administration are under the supervision of the Texas Education Association rather than an elected Board of Trustees?
In the first two years, I will be in an advisory position which is important because most of the Board of Managers are not educators. The third and fourth year, if not sooner, I will be making academic, financial and administrative decisions. I am highly qualified in all aspects of this model.

Why are you running for this office?
Students deserve representation that is knowledgeable and qualified. As a career educator my vision has always been focused on providing the best for children. I am HISD. I attended and graduated from HISD schools, then received my Bachelor, Master, and Doctor degrees from the University of Houston. Upon graduation I worked in HISD for 35 years until retirement. I have lived and worked in this area all my life. I am the best person to represent the students of District 4.

How do you envision your role while HISD operations and administration are under the supervision of the Texas Education Association rather than an elected Board of Trustees?
As an elected Board of Trustee member, I act in advisory role to the Board of Managers communicating the vision and values of District 4. I am still the elected official for District 4, so I continue to communicate with the members about information received from the new administration.
