The House, along with the U.S. Senate, makes laws, raises revenues, appropriates federal funds, manages the federal debt, regulates commerce, declares war, maintains the military, establishes the federal court system, defines federal crimes, and directs the census every ten years. The House has the exclusive power to impeach federal officers, including the President. The current annual salary is $174,000.
