BACKGROUND: What training, experience, and characteristics qualify you for this position?
I have served on the San Jacinto College Board, and its Finance Committee, for the past 18 years. I have served as a City Councilman, Justice of the Peace, and Municipal Judge for the past 44 years and practiced law in Pasadena for the past 56 years.
ISSUES: What are the two most important issues affecting San Jacinto College? What measurable actions will you take to address them?
The two most important issues facing San Jacinto College are 1) reaching students where no family members have attended college prior to high school graduation and instilling a reason to seek further education and 2) keeping the costs of a college education sustainable so every one can afford college. Our accomplishments at San Jac has allowed us to be rated in the top 10 community colleges in the
QUALITY AND AFFORDABILITY: What actions do you support to ensure quality education, while not increasing cost of attendance?
We need to maintain competitive salaries for our faculty so we keep them devoted to San Jacinto and not lose them to other colleges. It is a competitive market. We have reduced the cost of college by implementing rental books and in some programs free books over the internet. This has saved student about $2 million in book costs.
