Pearland ISD Board of Trustees, Position 6
Jim Johnson
Nonpartisan Race

Qualifications: What training, experience and characteristics qualify you for this position?
As the Pearland Chamber CEO, I’ve led award-winning efforts in governance and strategy. I’ve built partnerships across business, civic, and education sectors and served on the Pearland ISD Education Foundation. As a PISD parent and spouse of an educator, I see the system firsthand. I’ll be an informed, visible, and accessible trustee focused on student success.
Opportunities: What opportunities for improvement do you identify in the District and how do you feel the Board should work towards those goals?
We must turn feedback into action and align district goals with measurable outcomes. I’ll focus on strategic planning, early intervention, and using data to drive decisions. Our district is strong, but continuous improvement will help us reach the next level.
Funding: What actions can the Board take to secure the financial future of the District? Specifically, are there any expenditures you feel should be examined as a cost-saving measure?
We must fight for more state funding and guard against unfunded mandates. I bring experience managing budgets and aligning spending with mission. Cost savings should never hurt students, and our priority must be investing in what works, especially our teachers
Supporting Teachers: What do you see as the most pressing issues facing teachers in the District? What actions can the Board take to better support and retain teachers?
Teachers need trust, support, and a voice in decisions. I’ll prioritize listening to educators, reducing one-size-fits-all mandates, and aligning policy with teacher needs. My goal: make sure every teacher feels valued, heard, and empowered to succeed in the classroom.
Future Voters: Assess how the District prepares students to participate in their country’s democracy and describe what the Board can do to support civic engagement efforts.
Civic literacy is vital. I started the Civic Bee in Pearland to help students understand democracy and their role in it. As a trustee, I’ll support civic learning through curriculum, competitions, and real-world engagement, helping students become informed participants in our democracy.
