Qualifications: What training, experience and characteristics qualify you for this position?
With over 15 years of strategic consulting experience at firms like Accenture, I specialized in IT restructuring, M&A and optimizing business operations. My leadership on boards such as National Christian Foundation, Lifesong for Orphans and The Source for Women showcases my commitment to effective governance and accountability, making me a strong fit for this position. These experiences have ingrained in me a deep understanding of governance.
Opportunities: What opportunities for improvement do you identify in the District and how do you feel the Board should work towards those goals?
To enhance our district, I propose increasing funding for competitive compensation. We should strengthen safety protocols and expand CTE pathways. We also need to refocus our curriculum on getting back to the basics so our students are ready for the real world. By equipping teachers and streamlining admin tasks, we'll ensure a focus on teaching and student outcomes, backed by transparent fiscal management and accountable governance.
Funding: What actions can the Board take to secure the financial future of the District? Specifically, are there any expenditures you feel should be examined as a cost-saving measure?
To secure our district's financial future, the Board should diversify funding sources, advocate for state support, and conduct efficiency audits. We should optimize spending by reviewing administrative costs and updating technology to cut long-term expenses. Building a financial reserve is crucial for stability. Additionally, regular review of contracts and procurement can uncover further savings opportunities.
Supporting Teachers: What do you see as the most pressing issues facing teachers in the District? What actions can the Board take to better support and retain teachers?
Key issues for our district's teachers are competitive compensation, workload, and professional support. We need to align teacher compensation with neighboring districts, reduce administrative burdens, and boost professional development. Consistency in curriculum and strategic direction is crucial, especially to support new teachers in their critical early years and retain experienced staff. We need to listen to our teachers.
Future Voters: Assess how the District prepares students to participate in their country’s democracy and describe what the Board can do to support civic engagement efforts.
To enhance civic education, our district should integrate a curriculum on democracy, governance, and voting processes. Supporting student councils, community projects, and workshops with civic leaders are vital. Initiatives like voter registration and debate programs, along with a robust RELA curriculum, will prepare students to navigate information overload and actively participate in civic life, preserving our democracy for future generations.
