Waller ISD Board of Trustees, Position 3

Nonpartisan Race

Qualifications: What training, experience and characteristics qualify you for this position?
I have dedicated 36 years to the school board, serving as President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. I’ve helped navigate our district’s growth from 3A to 6A, gaining a deep understanding of its needs. I’ve served on numerous committees and as a non-voting member of all Long-Range Planning Committees, ensuring thoughtful decision-making for our district’s future.
Opportunities: What opportunities for improvement do you identify in the District and how do you feel the Board should work towards those goals?
The district can expand academic support through tutoring and interventions while ensuring all students access quality education and resources. Offering diverse opportunities, like career training and advanced courses, will better prepare students. Supporting teachers with training and tools is key to success. The Board must work with district leaders to allocate resources and engage the community to achieve these goals.
Funding: What actions can the Board take to secure the financial future of the District? Specifically, are there any expenditures you feel should be examined as a cost-saving measure?
The Board must uphold financial responsibility by maintaining the district’s strong standing and low tax rate. Prioritizing student-focused staffing ensures resources support learning, while ongoing expenditure evaluations identify savings without compromising quality. Through partnership and teamwork with district leaders, we can sustain financial stability while keeping taxpayer interests and student success at the forefront.
Supporting Teachers: What do you see as the most pressing issues facing teachers in the District? What actions can the Board take to better support and retain teachers?
The most pressing issue for teachers in our fast-growing district is ensuring they have the necessary resources. To support and retain teachers, the Board should provide essential classroom materials, continue with the Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA), offer professional development and mentorship, and maintain competitive pay and benefits. These steps will foster a supportive environment and encourage long-term success and retention.
Future Voters: Assess how the District prepares students to participate in their country’s democracy and describe what the Board can do to support civic engagement efforts.
The District prepares students for civic engagement by teaching civic duty in social studies and offering voter registration for seniors. To strengthen this, the Board can support voter registration efforts, encourage student government and mock elections, and promote community involvement. These actions will help students actively participate in democracy and become informed, engaged citizens.
