Tom Ramsey

Republican
County Commissioner Precinct 3
Non-partisan election information about Tom Ramsey, Candidate - County Commissioner Precinct 3 by the League of Women Voters of Houston
What training, experience, and characteristics qualify you for this position?
Tom Ramsey has over 43 years of experience as a professional engineer managing infrastructure projects including roads, drainage, traffic, utilities and environmental assignments. This has allowed him to work for over 50 Cities, 20 Counties and multiple state agencies. Additionally he served as Mayor of Spring Valley Texas leading to improvements to their roads, city hall, parks and utilities. It was named the safest City in Harris County.
What are the two most important issues affecting the residents of your precinct and what measurable actions will you take to address them?
Safe Neighborhoods and Infrastructure are the two most important issues impacting the 1.2 Million Residents of Pct 3. I have advocated to hire more Officers including Constables and Sheriffs Deputies and pay them more which will result in safe neighborhoods.
Additionally I have advocated for more funding of basic road and drainage infrastructure. Pct 3 has initiated and completed more of these projects than any other area. We will continue prioritize the maintenance of our current road system.
What would be your budget priorities during your term?
My budget priorities have been basic infrastructure including the maintenance of the 6,800 miles of roads and 72 Parks in the Pct. Additionally we will address the mitigation of flooding by constructing improvements to keep the water out of homes. Additionally we must better fund Law Enforcement and the Courts to relieve the overcrowding in our Jail. For too long we have ignored these basic needs and spent wastefully on obscure programs of little benefit.
What initiatives will you implement to inform the public about county services and projects?
Pct 3 will continue to have public meetings in our 10 Community centers and keep our residents informed the newsletters and social media. Additionally we will respond directly to phone calls and emails on questions they may have. Currently there are over 1500 requests for service which are being effectively and quickly addressed. Our residents appreciate our transparent and timely response to their needs.
