What training, experience, and characteristics qualify you for this position?
I have been in law enforcement since 1993 and have trained throughout my career. I hold a Master Peace Officer's license and am a certified school resource officer, mounted patrol officer, law enforcement instructor, marine safety enforcement officer and a member of the Emergency Response Team and Texas Gang Investigation Association. Continued education is important to us all and I strongly encourage not only my team, but everyone to seek more knowledge.
What are the two biggest issues facing your precinct and how will you address them?
Precinct 3, like most areas, has seen a rise in crime. To combat this we have implemented the Crime Interdiction Unit to target high crime areas. This unit has arrested nearly 400 defendants connected to criminal activity and seized dozens of illegal firearms and narcotics. Along with a rising crime rate we have also seen a rise in illegal dumping. For this reason we have created the Environmental Crimes Unit to investigate illegal dumping sites to identify and charge the suspects.
How do you plan to engage with the community to build partnerships and address local concerns related to public safety?
In order to build better relationships with our citizens, we take a proactive approach by attending events in our community and engaging with citizens while patrolling. We also created a program dedicated to our senior citizens. Our employees assigned to the "RUOk" Senior Program contact the participants daily, building solid, trusted relationships.
