What training, experience, and characteristics qualify you for this position?
I’ve practiced law for 27 years, representing plaintiffs and defendants in nearly every kind of case this court handles. I’ve tried cases to jury verdict and final judgment and handled appeals up to the Texas and U. S. Supreme Courts. I’m known for being respectful, treating all people with dignity, and seeking justice for all. I am a person of integrity and progressive values, and I have the personal characteristics and temperament that enable me to serve as a judge and serve with distinction.
What will you do to promote the just, prompt, and affordable resolution of civil cases that come before your court?
Effective case management is essential to the delivery of justice, yet the volume and complexity of cases filed in Harris County courts in recent years has challenged even the most efficient courts. If elected, I will conduct hearings virtually when appropriate; doing so will significantly improve the speed of court proceedings, reduce costs, and improve the quality of the justice process by making court proceedings more accessible, more affordable, and more transparent for everyone involved.
What will you do to ensure that cases before your court are heard in a timely manner?
Plain and simple—I will run a working court. Trial practice is not limited to an 8-hour day, nor should a trial court's functions. An organized and disciplined hearing docket will get cases set for trial in a ready position. When called to trial, litigants will find a court that is ready to start—one that will work however many hours necessary to address issues outside of the jury's time before the start of the day and after 5 pm until a just verdict by a jury is reached.
