Non-partisan election information about Kyle Carter, Candidate - District Judge, 125th Judicial District - Civil by the League of Women Voters of Houston
What training, experience, and characteristics qualify you for this position?
I have served as your Judge of the 125th District Court for the past 15 years. I am Board Certified in Civil Trial Law. I have received awards for my work in the courtroom and in the community. I wake up excited to work hard and treat everyone fairly, with equality, dignity, and respect. I was twice elected president of the Texas Association of District Judges. I drafted the official Harris County Covid-19 Jury Trial Protocols to keep our courts open and safe. I also speak proficient Spanish.
What will you do to promote the just, prompt, and affordable resolution of civil cases that come before your court?
Everyone must have equal access to our courts. Justice must be available to everyone regardless of their ability to pay. We must guarantee access to lawyers and translators for those in need. I will continue to provide people with information regarding free legal clinics and other court services. I will always listen and help guide everyone through the legal process.
What will you do to ensure that cases before your court are heard in a timely manner?
I believe that justice delayed is justice denied. Following Hurricane Harvey and Covid-19, we must make better use of limited resources to be more efficient. We must also address increase in population and new case filings. During the last 15 years the 125th District Court is among the highest in clearance rates and trials conducted. I will continue to improve court administration and infrastructure to better serve the people of Harris County.
