What training, experience, and characteristics qualify you for this position?
I am a 30+ year attorney with experience in the Harris County Attorney's Office (1998-2001), Harris County Tax Office (2001-2006) and as the Judge of the Harris County Civil Court at Law 2 (2007-2012). I worked for Harris County in a variety of leadership roles for over 13 years and have had my own law firm since 2013. I have a proven track record of poised leadership and success. I know the job, have done the job, and have succeeded in helping Harris County through many challenges.
What are your top priorities?
My top priorities are to provide support to law enforcement and border enforcement by enforcing the laws as written; secure fair elections, protecting our citizens right to vote; improve the reputation of the office and Harris County as a whole by providing proactive advice to avoid scandals; actively monitor and participate in the legislative process and drafting and passage of laws that affect Harris County; and support all Harris County elected officials in fulfilling their duties of office.
How will you ensure that the Harris County Attorney’s Office will effectively enforce environmental laws and regulations, such as those related to pollution and hazardous waste?
Our County is home to the energy industry and thus a variety of environmental challenges, from air pollution to hazardous waste disposal. As we have seen, if change is forced too quickly, adverse effects on the economy and electric grid follow. I believe in protecting the environment in a responsible and disciplined manner by not only monitoring and enforcing existing laws, but working with our business leaders to design and promote real change that is obtainable and measurable.
