What training, experience, and characteristics qualify you for this position?
I have been practicing law for fourteen years, with over a decade of experience in Estate Planning, Probate, and Guardianship, which is this Court's subject matter. Additionally, I have worked as a staff attorney for Probate Court 2, which gave me valuable insight on the administrative aspects of managing a Court.
I also have judicial experience. I served the City of Houston as an Associate Municipal Court Judge for four years. As of June 15, 2024, I have assumed the role of Presiding Ju
What do you see as the most significant issues currently facing the probate court system and how will you address them?
Harris County has seen significant population growth, which means the Probate Courts have seen a surge in filings of cases. Studies show that Harris County needs eight probate courts for the influx of filings. As an experienced Judge, probate attorney, and current Presiding Judge, these issues are being addressed as our new Court is not only assisting with new case filings but is preparing to quickly and smoothly accept a transfer of cases from the other four courts, providing needed relief.
What will you do to ensure an effective and coordinated process for dealing with guardianship cases, especially those involving parties who are disabled or elderly?
As of June 2024, I assumed the bench as the Presiding Judge. During my short time in office, I have met with the team regularly to understand the current processes for guardianship cases. Both the Associate Judge and I have practiced for many years staying updated on legal and best practices. This ensures that if a guardianship is granted, it has been fully vetted and found necessary, especially since we are serving populations who oftentimes are unable to speak for themselves.
