What training, experience, and characteristics qualify you for this position?
My history with both the Constables' and the Sheriff's office gives me an increased knowledge of the strengths of both agencies as well as the areas needing attention that when addressed, will create a cohesive relationship between the community and agencies. My experience in patrol allowed me a deeper understanding of the needs and concerns of those I protect. A true leader's place is at the front. I hold respect for the citizen, the officer and the law and will return safety to my Precinct.
What are the two biggest issues facing your precinct and how will you address them?
We are in a public safety crisis and the citizens of Pct 3 know this firsthand. We are a prime locale for crime: Robbery, Theft, Drug Activity, Homelessness, Human Trafficking, Domestic Violence are escalating and are a major concern to our citizens. A lack of police presence and leadership allows criminals to be in charge. Budgets increase by showing a need. Need is shown by addressing crime. A Citizens Academy strengthens bonds between the community and its police and we will meet both needs.
How do you plan to engage with the community to build partnerships and address local concerns related to public safety?
My plans include: Developing a Citizens Academy for the community. Hosting Department-sponsored trainings on personal safety. Return the SART Program developed during Constable Jones Admin. Collaborating with Specialists in Domestic Violence, Trafficking, & Child Abuse to reduce the actions and increase support. Develop volunteer team to address homelessness and expand "Are You Okay?" Program that engages professionals, clergy and humanitarian groups.
