What training, experience, and characteristics qualify you for this position?
I have 39 years of trial experience in various areas, making me a uniquely qualified candidate for a state district court bench. I am a trained mediator, arbitrator, and umpire. I help lawyers settle their clients' cases. I have represented Plaintiffs and Defendants. I am hired by individuals and Fortune 500 companies who are treated equally. I have a strong knowledge of Local, State, and Federal laws. My characteristics are critical thinking, empathy, and strong communication skills.
What will you do to promote the just, prompt, and affordable resolution of civil cases that come before your court?
I will rule on motions quickly and render fair decisions. I will get cases to trial. I plan to modernize along three core principles: openness, effectiveness, and equity. Improve public trust and confidence by showing how the civil courts operate and how they serve the public. Help court users access necessary information about their cases. I will exercise control over case management systems to get cases moving to resolution.
What will you do to ensure that cases before your court are heard in a timely manner?
I will set the pace and enforce the rules and time standards on litigants, while allowing court staff to fill their respective roles. I will monitor cases and be flexible enough to accommodate abnormalities, while still holding the parties accountable on getting to a resolution. An effective case management system works best when individuals within the system are given the autonomy to use their own initiative, while still being held accountable under a Docket Control Order.
