What training, experience, and characteristics qualify you for this position?
I am a lifelong Texas resident who has lived in the Pearland area for the past twenty years. As an educator, I understand firsthand the benefits that having access to a high quality education can be had for our children. I serve in the public school education system in LaMarque, Texas and earned my Master of Education at Houston Baptist University.
I have a deep commitment to the community and will be an advocate for common sense policies that uplift families, children, seniors, and veterans.
Article 7 of the Texas Constitution states that “it shall be the duty of the Legislature of the State to establish and make suitable provision for the support and maintenance of an efficient system of public free schools.” What is your interpretation of what this clause requires of the legislature?
The legislature is given the responsibility to provide, and maintain, an efficient free public school system. I believe in the power of a robust public education system to empower our children and prepare them for the challenges and opportunities of the future.
The current lack of adequate funding for our public schools is a violation of our constitution's mandate to provide free public education.
How will you ensure that Texas remains a leader in the energy sector through innovation and reliability?
I am a leader who respects science. I will push for comprehensive climate legislation that addresses both mitigation and adaptation, making Texas a leader in clean energy by investing in wind and solar power. I support stronger building codes and improved infrastructure to protect communities from extreme weather. Additionally, I will advocates for forest conservation and urban tree planting to absorb carbon dioxide and support biodiversity.
What do you believe is the appropriate role of the State of Texas in ensuring that Texans have access to reproductive healthcare, family planning, and pregnancy care and postpartum services?
Texas is known for having some of the most restrictive abortion laws in the U.S. These draconian measures endanger women's health, economically harm women and their families, and disproportionately impact women of color, those with limited economic means, and those in rural areas. I believe in supporting the reproductive rights of women. Improving the access to comprehensive sex education, contraception, and family planning services are proven to be more effective than restrictive laws.
What other issues are high priorities for the people of your district? Please give specific examples of measurable actions that you will take to address these issues.
Safe communities - we can protect our children and reduce gun violence while respecting Second Amendment rights. Gun violence is a public health crisis that demands immediate action to safeguard our communities and ensure the safety of our youth.
I support several evidence-based measures. These include backing CDC research on gun violence to inform policy decisions, expanding background checks to prevent firearms from falling into the wrong hands, and implementing red flag laws.
