CITY COUNCIL IS HOUSTON’S LEGISLATIVE BODY. MEMBERS ENACT AND ENFORCE ALL ORDINANCES AND RESOLUTIONS; ADOPT THE ANNUAL BUDGET; CONFIRM THE MAYOR’S APPOINTMENTS’ AND ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE APPROPRIATION AND ISSUANCE OF BONDS, AWARDING OF CONTRACTS, AND APPROVAL OF EXPENDITURES OVER $50,000.00.

In Houston, the city council includes At-Large positions as well as district positions. At-Large City Council positions represent the entire city, while district positions represent specific geographic areas (or districts) within the city. 


Your ballot will show the candidates for your zoned Houston District (A-K)  and all of the At-Large candidates (Positions 1-5). You don’t need to live in a specific district to vote for At-Large positions; they are open to all registered voters within the city.
