What training, experience, and characteristics qualify you for this position?
I'm even-tempered, fair, and believe in equal application of the law to all people. I've been licensed in Texas since May 2004 and acted as legal counsel in a variety of civil cases (collections and creditors rights, breach of contract, business disputes, real estate, and others), both in pre-trial matters, at trial (both jury and non-jury), and post-trial enforcement/collection of judgments. I have over 20 years of experience handling matters that will come before me as Judge of the 215th.
What will you do to promote the just, prompt, and affordable resolution of civil cases that come before your court?
I believe that litigants are entitled to a timely and cost-effective resolution of their cases. To that end, I will order mediation early in the hope that cases will resolve before legal fees and costs make settlement prohibitively expensive. When settlement isn't possible, I will strive to make decisions promptly and try cases without delay so that litigants before me can get an "up" or "down" ruling so that their lives and businesses can move forward without further legal concerns.
What will you do to ensure that cases before your court are heard in a timely manner?
The Court needs to be willing to hold hearings daily to maximize the use of the Court's time, along with counsel and litigants and ensure that hearings and trials can be held without significant delay. The wheels of justice need to move forward. As Judge of the 215th, I will do my homework, be prepared for hearings, and I will work hard to rule on Motions quickly (but fairly). I will also work with litigants and counsel to develop a schedule that best works for the case at hand.
